Recipe Difficulty – Very Easy

Why this recipe works

If you haven’t already thought about using your air fryer for chips, then now is the time! I honestly think these are the best homemade Air Fryer Chips on the internet and the best part about it is the minimal prep required! These blow any shop-bought chips out of the water!

Usually you would be soaking the potatoes in cold water, drain them and pat them dry with paper towels but there’s none of that needed with this recipe.

My favourite part about these chips in air fryer is the fact that they can go with pretty much any of your favourite meals! They’re the perfect crispy component! I personally love to pair these air fryer potato chips with my Sweet Chilli Salmon FishcakesGrilled Salmon Burgers, Mushroom Burger or even with a grilled piece of chicken or steak. If you’ve recently got an air fryer, now is the time to up your game and try out these amazing air fried chips! Once you’ve tried this new way, you won’t look back!

Ingredients to make Air Fryer Chips

  1. Potatoes – I’ve used Maris Piper Potatoes but most common types of potatoes would also work for these amazing home made air fryer chips!
  2. Olive Oil – Using olive oil helps to give these tasty homemade potato chips the maximum crispiness!
  3. Salt – I’ve created my own Lemon and Rosemary Salt, which is an absolute game changer and really helps take these Air Fryer Chips to the next level!

See recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

Substitutions

  • Potatoes – as mentioned earlier, the majority of common potatoes such as yukon gold potatoes or king edwards will work to create perfect air fryer chips. If you don’t have any potatoes at home, you could also make these tasty snacks using sweet potatoes instead!
  • Olive oil – If you don’t have standard olive oil you could use an olive oil spray or an alternative cooking spray or a neutral cooking oil such as sunflower or rapeseed oil.
  • Sea Salt – I’ve used a lemon and rosemary salt, but you could use also use a garlic salt or even standard table salt if you preferred.

Variations

  • Deluxe – The best way to serve them is with your favourite dipping sauce or favourite seasonings. If you have guests over you could also use a crinkle cutter to really up your game and sprinkle over onion powder ! You could even make air fryer potato wedges (just ensure you cook them for longer!) I also love dipping them in my Vegan Sour Cream or Vegan Mayo
  • Spicy – If you wanted to create a spicy thick chips, you could coat them in curry powder or hot paprika seasoning or just lots of cracked black pepper before air frying!
  • Kids – This is a great recipe to get the children involved with the cooking process, plus they are healthier than the average chip. If you are cooking with children, I also have a great Free From Banana Bread recipe or my 3 Ingredient Oat Cookies. Both of these recipes are fun to make and good options to get the children involved in too!

How to make Air Fryer Chips

potatoes cut lengthways on wooden chopping board.

Step 1: Firstly, using a sharp knife, slice the potatoes lengthways to produce chip-like shapes. Cut thin slices for crispy chips and thicker slices for chunky chips (try to avoid uneven slices as they won’t cook evenly)

Step 2: In a large bowl, add the sliced potatoes, olive oil and salt and shake vigorously so that the olive oil and salt is evenly distributed amongst the potatoes. This helps to create crispy air fryer potato chips!

Step 3: Then place the potato slices in the air fryer basket evenly (ensure the chips are kept on a single layer and don’t overlap) and cook for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Hint: Cook time depends on the different model of air fryer along with the thickness of chip you have cut. Make sure you keep a close eye on them

Leftovers

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge. To reheat, pop them back in the air fryer for 5 minutes at 200C (390F) until they are nice and crispy again!
