Recipe Difficulty – Very Easy

Why this recipe works

I can’t tell you how much having this fresh rosemary salt in the kitchen has upped the flavours in my cooking! Making your own rosemary salt is such a quick and easy win! The subtle flavours beat any store-bought salt and the flavor of the lemon, rosemary and garlic compliment almost any recipe!

The best thing about this rosemary sea salt, is that it can be added to almost any recipe! I was inspired to make the best Rosemary Salt whilst creating my Homemade Air Fryer Chip recipe!

Ingredients to make Rosemary Salt

Ingredients to make rosemary salt laid on white surface.
  1. Salt – the main ingredient for this Rosemary and Lemon Salt! I’ve used flakey sea salt for this recipe but you could use coarse sea salt.
  2. Fresh Rosemary –  this brings freshness and a herby flavour to this herb salt.
  3. Garlic Granules – this adds a garlic flavour, which adds depth to the flavour and a slight hint of acidity to the Lemon Salt.
  4. Lemon – the citrus flavours of the lemon zest really give an uplifting taste! Lemon is a secret hero ingredient in many of my recipes!

See recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

Substitutions

  • Rosemary – If you don’t have access to fresh Rosemary, you could substitute this for other fresh herbs such as Thyme which is a similar herb in terms of flavours. You could also used dried herbs if you only have those to hand.
  • Lemon – You could use lime instead, but equally if you wanted to avoid using a citrus flavour then you can leave it out.
  • Salt – I have used standard sea salt but likewise you could other salts such as Pink Himalayan Salt as well.

Variations

  • Deluxe – This rosemary salt is next level but other flavoured salt such as smokey chilli salt or seaweed salt which are all equally as delicious! And for a more coarse salt you could use a food processor.
  • Spicy – If you wanted to add some heat to this homemade flavored salt, you could add some spicy ingredients e.g. dried chilli flakes or chopped jalapeños!

Step 2: Then add the lemon zest, rosemary and garlic granules to the sea salt and mix until well combined.

Leftovers

The best thing about this salt is its shelf life when stored in a cool place. I leave this flavored salt in an airtight container, glass jar or mason jar at room temperature for up to 6 weeks at a time (although it is normally all gone by then!)

How to use Rosemary Salt

It’s perfect for topping or mixing into many different recipes. I love it served on pasta dishes or roast vegetables but here are a few of my recipes it pairs perfectly with.
