Why this recipe works
This healthy granola recipe with peanut butter is definitely one for the nut butter fans out there. It’s crunchy, super easy to make, and can be used in lots of different ways.
If you don’t like or have an allergy to peanut butter, this sugar free granola works with any nut butter you choose!
This gluten free granola only uses these 7 ingredients that you will most likely already have in your kitchen at home.
This was inspired by my Wintry Granola recipe, and pairs well with these amazing Gluten Free Vegan Crepes or Gluten Free Pancakes recipe.
Ingredients to make Peanut Butter Granola
- Oats – Any oats work for this recipe. Preferably steal cut or large porridge oats. If you have Coeliac disease or a gluten intolerance, make sure your oats are specifically gluten free. If not marked, they may have cross-contamination from wheat they were grown with.
- Almonds – Add a delicious crunch and good nutrition.
- Pecans – Add a nice texture difference to the granola.
- Ground Almonds – gives more texture and flavour but also helps to bind the granola into clusters.
- Coconut Oil – helps the granola to stick together and not dry out.
- Maple Syrup – adds the perfect natural sweetness and keep this a vegan granola recipe.
- Peanut Butter – One of my favourite ingredients, you can opt crunchy or smooth. If you have any spare then try my Peanut Butter Noodles.
See recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Substitutions
- Gluten Free Oats – If you don’t need to avoid gluten, feel free to use regular oats.
- Almonds and Pecans – Feel free to change up nuts to your favourites!
- Coconut Oil – adds my favourite flavour, but if you don’t have it opt for sunflower or vegetable oil.
- Maple Syrup – A good substitute for maple syrup is a runny honey or agave syrup.
- Peanut Butter – Any nut butter will serve as a great substitute such as almond butter or cashew butter.
Variations
- Deluxe – Add more of your favourites to make this granola yours! Consider adding freeze-dried fruit pieces, raisins or craisins, coconut, dark chocolate, or seeds.
- Kid friendly – If you want to keep it simple for kids, you can take out the whole nuts and it will still be delicious! You could even add some chocolate chips for a fun treat!

Recipe FAQs
Granola is always such a versatile breakfast, you can simply have it with milk or get creative and make an incredible bowl by adding coconut yoghurt and strawberry or banana. You can also top smoothies or apple crips with it or even just have a handful of it as an afternoon snack.
A couple of great things about making your own granola is that it’s cheaper, tastier and healthier! You can also store it in a sealed container for months, so you can batch cook it and have it last.
Yes! It does have some fat in it, but they are good fats along with tons of nutrients! My recipe is a refined sugar free granola. It is a perfect snack or addition to your yogurt or smoothie!
They are slightly different. Almond flour is more fine and ground almonds not so, but either will work.

I just made another batch of this delicious granola to enjoy on a cold, rainy evening. Truly one of my top five all time recipes. Thanks James!
LOVE this Cheryl, thank you 🙂
Hi, Would you add the raisins/dried fruit before or after baking? Does it matter? Thanks
I would add those after baking 🙂 enjoy!
Hi!
Are the ground almonds, the same as almond flour?
Slightly different, almond flour is more fine and ground almonds not so but either will work
love the recipe just curious what the nutrition facts are
Finally made a batch of this granola and my family has almost finished it in just a few hours. Thank you! I guess I will make more tomorrow.
Make this nearly every week but I swap the whole almonds for flaked almonds and add a cup of hazelnuts, it’s sooo good. Thanks James
Made this for a brown bag brunch, where I dropped off goodies in a brown bag and we “telebrunched” It was a major hit.
Thank you Jody 🙂 pleased to hear it went well!
This recipe is amazing. My hungry teens devour it in a day every time I make it. Thank you!
Omg. Had a go at making this as needed some peanut butter granola for another recipe (chocolate peanut butter cups) , have made 4 x batches now and dissapears in our house so quick that I still haven’t managed to make the peanut butter cups.
That’s awesome Sarah 🙂 so pleased to hear the whole house is enjoying it. Maybe you’ll get round to making the cups at some point haha thanks for sharing your feedback!
I’m making this recipe all the time now. Sometimes I don’t have all the ingredients called for but this recipe still tastes marvelous with substitutes like raisins, coconut flakes, olive oil, hazelnuts… I have a pan in the oven right now and I can’t wait for it to bake. It’s my lunch today! 🙂
Thank you Tema, so pleased you’re enjoying it!
I love this stuff! I made it this a.m. and I am ecstatic that this granola tastes so good. I won’t be using it as a cereal but as a lovely snack. I love that it’s so easy to make and yet will be a good go-to snack to take to my knitting group tomorrow. Thank you so much!
Yay so pleased you’re enjoying it TEMA thanks for leaving your review 🙂
Do you need as much oil that’s what has always put me me off granola but I really want to make it
Hi Emma, you could use less oil if you wanted to! It definitely helps to bind it together more though. Give it a try and see how you get on.
Can you use normal oil if you don’t have coconut oil?
Absolutely Emma, I would suggest one like sunflower rather than olive oil though.
I decided to try this as I’ve been struggling to find a granola that is both gluten free and refined sugar free. It has just come out of the oven looking and smelling delicious! I can’t stop nibbling at it and can’t wait for breakfast tomorrow now, yum!!
Hey Annie, thank you for leaving a review 🙂 enjoy your breakfast!
