Recipe Difficulty – Very Easy

Why this recipe works

I love a nice and quick snack year round, and these easy candied pecans fit the bill! The flavours work especially well around the Christmas season when entertaining family or friends. You’ll be surprised at just how quickly they disappear!

Candied nuts can be so expensive at the store – even the Kirkland brand at Costco can be pricy. Making them yourself is SO quick and easy and will save you some money! Plus these homemade candied nuts are much healthier than store bought.

This was inspired by my Healthy Mince Pies recipe, and pairs well with this amazing Vegan Rocky Road recipe

Ingredients to make Candied Pecans

Ingredients to make Candied Pecans.
  • Pecans – are the stars of this recipe! If you have some spare try chucking them into my Peanut Butter Granola.
  • Maple Syrup – is used to add the sweet maple flavour to these caramelized pecans.
  • Coconut Oil – should be melted before starting this recipe.
  • Cinnamon – adds a nice bit of spice to the sweet pecans.
  • Sea Salt – helps to balance out the flavours.

See recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

Substitutions

  • Pecans – If you prefer another type of nut, just switch it out! Try praline or a glazed walnuts recipe.
  • Maple Syrup – Can almost always be replaced with honey or agave syrup. If you want to stick with the maple flavour, replace with a 3:1 brown sugar and water mixture.

Variations

  • Spicy – For a spicier snack, mix in some cayenne pepper with the maple and cinnamon.
  • Deluxe – I love to serve these up in a bowl with another sprinkle of sea salt.
  • Kid friendly – If your kids don’t like the taste of cinnamon, you can tone it down and increase the maple syrup. You can also serve it on top of ice cream for an extra treat!

  1. Delicious and so easy to make. I wouldn’t recommend substituting with date syrup…. I used half date and half maple and the date syrup clumped together in places to make a chewy toffee like substance. It tasted fine but not good for the teeth!
