Recipe Difficulty – Very Easy

Why this recipe works

If you are a peanut lover, this recipe is for you! This Thai Peanut Salad Dressing is wonderful all year round. It’s great as a homemade salad dressing for any type of salad when you want a refreshing meal in the summer. It is also great as a dipping sauce for something like fresh spring rolls! In the cooler months, you can serve this up as a warm noodle dish or with rice, quinoa, or chick peas.

If you haven’t tried a peanut dressing for salad, you are in for a treat! The creamy peanut butter flavour melds perfectly with the other ingredients for a nice Thai vinaigrette. When it comes to homemade sauces, this peanut butter dressing is certainly on the easy side! It’s just a matter of mixing the ingredients together!

This recipe is so easy to make! If you don’t already have all of the ingredients, they are easily found in grocery stores.

This was inspired by my Peanut Butter Noodles and pairs well with this amazing Tofu Salad recipe, Chicken Satay Salad or Cold Noodle Salad.

Ingredients to make Peanut Salad Dressing

Ingredients to make Peanut Salad Dressing.
  1. Peanut Butter – I used crunchy peanut butter, but creamy will work just fine.
  2. Maple Syrup – is a fabulous natural sweetener.
  3. Tamari – helps this peanut dressing taste like an Asian salad dressing.
  4. Sesame Oil – is another common Asian flavour.
  5. Juice from a Lime – The lime juice brings a nice tang to this Thai peanut dressing.
  6. Onion Powder – helps to ground this peanut vinaigrette with an umami flavour.
  7. Garlic Powder – mixes perfectly with the rest of the ingredients

See recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

Substitutions

  • Peanut Butter – If natural peanut butter isn’t your style or you have an allergy to it, you could use almond butter, cashew butter, or even sunflower seed butter.
  • Maple Syrup – Honey or agave syrup are great substitutions. You could also use brown sugar, though you’d need to mix with some liquid to keep the same consistency.
  • Tamari – You could also use soy sauce or liquid aminos. If you are gluten-free, be sure to check the ingredients.
  • Garlic Powder – If you only have a fresh garlic clove, be sure it is minced into very small pieces.

Variations

  • Spicy – add red pepper flakes or sriracha to this salad dressing.
  • Deluxe – You make this dressing deluxe by what you pair it with! You can serve it up with a large bowl of green salad or even use it in my Prawn Salad or Courgette Salad. You could add some tofu or rotisserie chicken to the salad. This would also go great with grain bowls (Buddha bowls).
  • Kid friendly – This healthy salad dressing is already kid friendly! If they aren’t quite ready for a salad, you could have them start with this easy Thai peanut dressing as a dip.
